A New Begining

Today I am beginning this blog thanks to a very close friend and wonderfully talented artist of mine who has motivated me to showcase my art. I have been putting this off over and over again because I have simply felt that my art was not ready. However one of my painting teachers has been speaking a lot about when a piece of art is really done. Picasso once stated that "to finish a work? To finish a picture? What nonsense! To finish it means to be through with it, to kill it, to rid it of its soul, to give it its final blow ... the coup de grĂ¢ce for the painter as well as for the picture". This brings me to ask myself: is a painting, a drawing, ever truly finished? As an artist I have always been uncertain about when to leave a certain piece alone. Looking back I cannot ever recall leaving a piece of art thinking yes it has all it needs! It has more so felt as an abandonment. A sort of moving on not because there is nothing left to be done but because life must move forward. This new train of though has allowed me to embrace the process of art. In every stage of my art is beauty. It begins as an idea trapped inside me and slowly it is unleashed on to paper and bit by bit it grows. I do not create art for its final product but for the simple love I hold for expressing the beauty I see around me. For me my art is my story, the diary of my life and that is not something which ends it is ongoing. So whether I feel that all of these pieces of art are at their greatest or not they are all beautiful in their own respects for they all hold their own story.
